Audience, Goal, and Objectives
The goal of this activity is to update the knowledge, skills, and
attitudes of healthcare providers who provide primary care for patients
at increased risk for cancer. This activity is also designed for healthcare
media, federal and state legislators, cancer survivor service organization
workers, case managers, social workers, pharmacists, nurses, and corrections
healthcare professionals.
The objectives are:
- to familiarize participants with the unique epidemiology of
cancer among African-American communities in the United States
- to provide an overview of current clinical modalities for the
management of cancers that disproportionately impact the African-American
community
- to review palliative care and end of life decision making
- to examine social and psychiatric concerns of the African-American
patients and their families
- to analyze government policy initiatives and trends which impact
all cancer patients.
